Excellent Supplement For ACRC And Other Exams [2000-03-08]

If you're looking for a "one-stop" ACRC book, this is not what you want. However, if you want a book that does a good job of reinforcing your ACRC skills, this is an excellent buy.

The CD that comes with it is a better indicator of ability that those CDs you see for sale on the net at $200 +. I'm not much on practice testing myself, but this CD even impressed me.

Otherwise, I felt that the book did a pretty good job illustrating concepts presented in Laura Chappell's ACRC book. I'd buy another of Clare's books. If you can handle this level of material as presented on the CD, you should be able to handle the exam.

Not worth the money [2000-01-05]

Sadly, like most books from cisco press this book was of little help. Although, I did find the CD to be helpful with other study guides (Exam Cram) I actually read the Exam Cram for ACRC and passed the Cisco practise test that came on the cd rom. I do not like to be critical of cisco, since I'm focusing my career around them, but this book like other cisco press books, and quite frankly like their tests, seem to be more impressed with themselves and how cleaver they are then the material at hand. The three stars are for the cd that came with it. :-)

Not the help I was looking for [1999-12-22]

The book proclaims itself to be the perfect way to help you focus your studies and keep you on the "right path". Boy, nothing could be further from the truth, I felt more unfocused than i ever did after going through the book. There is nothing wrong with the actual tech info, but the book doesn't organize the info efficiently, it's a meandering, jumbled mess of info.....Get to the point! Streamline it! Didn't care for the study questions either. I would have given this a 2 star, but the CD of study-questions, even though there are some questionable answers there, was suprisingly good, given that it came with this mess of a book

OK but not perfect [2000-07-13]

Ruslan's review sums this book up well - you will probably scrape through if you rely on it alone, but for a real understanding of the topics it should be used in conjunction with Jeff Doyle's excellent Routing TCP/IP Vol 1. The main problem with the book is that it has not been properly proof-read and contains many 'dense' areas that are difficult to understand (for example, the explanation of redistribution in networks with redundant paths or the 'DUAL' flowchart in EIGRP).

Very, Very, Average [1999-11-26]

I was pumped when I first bought this book. I really thought it was going to help me focus my studies, but it didn't deliver. Although I passed the ACRC Exam this week, this book only helped to solidify my knowledge from the ACRC Book. I do not suggest you purchase it if you already have the ACRC Book (which is excellent, 5 stars).

spend your money elsewhere [2000-03-09]

I wish I had chosen to spend my time reading something else. The only redeeming elements of this book are the scenarios and the end of chapter quizes.

The presentation of the material is frustrating to say the least. The author oscillates between useless fluff (8 pages on classes of IP addresses) and misses important details needed to understand examples (e.g. mentioning commands executed via access lists that aren't shown).

Not at all up to the quality I'd come to expect from the Cisco ACRC and ICRC books.

It works [2000-05-11]

I used only this book and passed the test. It was not just easy reading. I answered all questions in Q&A sections, test examples etc. But my score was just a bit above the limit (805 and 790). Probably it's not the best book but it works. I think if somebody failed test probably it's because the test is very tough and I guess any 500 pages tutorial is not enough to pass it easy. Take this test very seriously. Instead of looking for the best book try to use all available sources of information.

Not bad as a study aid [1999-07-13]

The book is well laid out and has essentially three "quizzes" per section, a pre-quiz, a post-quiz, and a scenario based situation(s) - along with in depth discussion of each topic of course. If you ace a pre-quiz, you could look at skipping the section. This book should NOT be used as your only means of passing the test unless you have considerable experience. It is a great study aid, but that is it's true purpose. Also the CD is nice in that the test format is fairly similiar to the real thing, though a number of the questions did have errors, which is annoying. You can print out your overall score, as well as the correct answers and book references. Between this and the Chappell book (along with 3 years experience) I passed the test the first time around.

Passed ACRC easily, Miracolously with Cisco ACRC Exam Guide [2000-06-21]

I can't believe it, when i think of it. I passed ACRC with 884 out of 1000 in just less then 1 hour and 1 week of study time. I have lammle's book, it contains errors. So i move to this book, and guess what ? As any other ciscopress book, it's good to read, and unconciously I memorized it.When i took the exam, i though i failed, upon a click of NEXT button, there my 'CONGRATULATION' displayed and the score is quite high too.Believe me use Cisco Press Exam Guide. ...

Just passed the ACRC Exam 640-403 [1999-09-12]

Used this book along with extensive hands on lab practice to ace the exam. You will NOT PASS without hands on. There are numerous fill in the blank type questions which require you to know which one to use. This is where the book provides all the pertinent information as to how the protocols operate. Just common sense lets you know if Cisco wrote the exam of course CCIE's would write more informative books. Don't just memorize and forget, learn it once and brush up those skills for the future. When faced with a network outage knowing the material will SAVE YOUR JOB.

Good Foundation for the ACRC Exam [1999-09-12]

Used this book as a tool to prepare for the ACRC Examination. Provided excellent presentation of the various protocols with emphasis on the differences between distance vector and link state protocols. Cleared up the questions pertaining to routed vs routing protocols. Covers all of the exam objective. this exam is the beginning of a long journey towards the CCNP certification.

Good last step for exam preperation [1999-09-06]

This book provides a good framework for your final steps in studying for the ACRC exam. While there are some errors in the book, it's not nearly as bad as the ICRC exam certification guide. The CD with sample questions is an immensely useful study tool, but be sure that you score 95% or better before you think about taking the actual exam.

Better for those aiming for Foundation R/S Exam... [1999-08-16]

While the ACRC book by Laura Chappel should get your through the much dreaded ACRC exam, use this book to get yr concepts clearer. I'd recommend this book for those aiming for the Foundation R/S exam as well. The CD provides many questions that are thought provoking and can help you in a better understanding of the topics in the ACRC course.

The ACRC exam measures the proficiency in configuring Cisco routers for large or growing multiprotocol networks. This title covers all set topics. Material includes: cross-references, foundation sections, in-depth coverage and exercises.
