Description
The Apple Macintosh LC -- so named for its "Low Cost" compared to earlier color capable Macs -- features a 16 MHz 68020 processor, 2 MB or 4 MB of RAM, and either dual 1.44 MB disk drives or a single 1.44 MB disk drive and a 40 MB or an 80 MB hard drive in a compact, simple-to-upgrade "pizza box" case.
The Macintosh LC is a distant cousin of the Macintosh II in a much smaller case, and thus, lacks NuBus expansion slots. However, the LC does have a single LC PDS (Processor Direct Slot), which could be equipped with an Apple IIe emulation card as well as other options.
De computer bevatte een Motorola MC68000-processor, die op 8MHz liep en die voor die tijd bijzonder snel was en nog jaren dienst zou doen. Ook was er een 3,5"-floppydrive en een geheugencapaciteit was 128KB. Deze hoeveelheid bleek voor veel programma's een bottleneck, waardoor Apple zich al in september van 1984 genoodzaakt zag een duurdere variant met 512KB uit te brengen. In oktober 1984 stopte Apple de verkoop van de Macintosh 128K.
