Info transavantgarde : de italiaanse criticus, Bonito Achille Oliva, gebruikte die term voor deze kunstuiting die diametraal tegenover de klassiek en conceptuele kunst stond en die integendeel meer emotionele uitingen creëerde - veelal de vreugde van het scheppen. Door de heropleving van figuratie en symbolisme richtte deze groep van artisten, die hun doorbraak kenden in de jaren 80, zich meer op het herstel van mythes, mysterie en magie in hedendaagse kunst.
Italian critic, Bonito Achille Oliva, coined this term for art-making that rejected the tenents of conceptual art and attempted to bring emotion - especially the joy of creation - back into the process. By reviving figuration and symbolism, this group of artists, who came to prominence in the 80´s, aimed to restore myth, mystery and magic to contemporary art.
