One of the most significant figures in Austrian Concrete and Constructive art, his practice operates at the intersection of visual art and language — translating text, numbers, and codes into geometric structures that demand to be seen rather than read. His central interest is how we deal with language and codes, and his encryptions can be seen as possible future visions in which we completely detach ourselves from words. Kunsthalle Messmer A graduate of the Hochschule für Gestaltung Linz, he taught at the Kunstuniversität Linz from 1975 to 2003 Galeria-roy, and founded the Gmundner Symposia for Concrete Art in 1990, which he ran annually until 2009, presenting works by 600 international artists. Wikipedia His work is held in the collections of the Albertina Vienna, the Museum für Konkrete Kunst Ingolstadt, the Mondriaanhuis Amersfoort, and the Foundation of Constructive Art, University of Calgary, among others.ARTWORKLinschinger's contribution performs the portfolio's central conceptual operation with forensic precision. The digital definition of black — the code 0,0,0 — is deconstructed and reassembled as concrete visual structure: no longer a void, but a carrier of information made visible. By translating the invisible digital command into a rhythmic geometric arrangement, he poses the portfolio's sharpest question: is black the absence of light, or a dense, encoded message? In Linschinger's hands the zero point becomes a cipher — a bridge between the spiritual silence of Malevich's icon and the functional silence of machine code, both of which turn out, on close examination, to be full of hidden architecture.PROJECT CONTEXTThis print is one of 30 original silkscreens by 30 artists, published as the 0,0,0 portfolio (CAFM, 2025) to mark the 110th anniversary of Malevich's Black Square and the historic 0,10 exhibition, Petrograd, 1915. Each work is hand-signed, edition of 250. The portfolio unites artists central to abstract, geometric, and kinetic art from the 1950s to the present — a multigenerational survey of reductive image-making and its enduring relevance.
