The style and format of "Natural Selections" are tried and tested. Pinnock has followed the example of the foremost US writers of popular science like Paul Thoreau, Tim Cakill and David Quamman. Each chapter starts with a line-drawing. The pieces are short, digestible, fun and cloaked in humour, with a bit of philosophy and an interest in the human story - such as the man who planted one billion trees and the bird writer who committed suicide because he stole some photos.
