Titel: Monet's London.
Auteur: Jennifer Hardin
ISBN: 9789053495452
Conditie: Beetje gebruikt
This spectacular exhibition features more than 125 works, borrowed from major American and European museums, and includes some of Monet's greatest paintings. Inspired by the artist's Parliament, Effect of Fog from the MFA collection, Claude Monet and Modernist London reunites this painting with others from his most successful show at the Durand-Ruel Gallery in Paris in 1904. Exciting paintings by such contemporaries as Daubigny, Whistler, Tissot, Derain, Homer, and Hassam, like the vibrant Monet canvases, all focus on the Thames and were created between 1859 and 1914. nnOrganized by the MFA, the exhibition includes watercolors, drawings, prints, and photographs, as well as paintings, and will travel to the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Baltimore Museum of Art. The Focardi Family Foundation provided a lead gift to initiate this project.n nThis catalogue explores Monet's London Series of paintings, broadening our scope of the artistic and socio-cultural context of the time, through presenting works by fellow artists who were also exploring images of the Thames River in London, such as Derain, Coburn, Fenton, Pennell, Whistler etc., and by exploring the seductive urban landscape of London and the Thames River - a place that was ripe for artists to create and for art dealers to present and sell these artists' work.nThis publication is based on an exhibition that evolved from a contextual study of the MFA's own Houses of Parliament painting 'Effect of Fog', shown in the 1904 debut of Monet's London series at Paul Durand-Ruel's Paris gallery. Not only will this catalogue document an important exhibition but it is also the first publication to document and discuss the artistic and cultural context of Modernist London (1859-1914) and the power the visual image of the Thames River played on artists of this period.nnExhibition St Petersburg, Florida: 16/01/2005 nExhibition Brooklyn Museum of Art: 29/05/2005 - 04/09/2005nExhibition Baltimore Museum of Art: 26/01/2005 - 01/01/2006
