Description

Château La Fleur Pétrus 2016

The 2016 La Fleur-Pétrus has a fresh, vital bouquet with brambly red fruit, sage and black truffle, a little more minéralité and delineation than its peers. The oak here is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, a beautiful thread of acidity, gentle grip and real complexity on the finish. Superb. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. Drink 2027-2050.

Tasted blind at the Ten Years On Tasting. A wine with a still deep colour and primary nose layered with plump, plummy fruit and darker forest and cherry tones, there is still a lick of sweet spice and incense to the nose but with air - and I expect more so with decanting - this dissipates and allows the fruit to shine. The palate is rich, warm and spicy, a powerful core of ripe fruit meeting more wood spice and some white pepper. This is a layered, juicy and expansive Pomerol with real potential. This is really just the start of its drinking window, it should grow into an exceptional wine over the coming decade as it sheds any lingering wood spice and mellows in fruit. Impressive and very long.
