Oak Master est un whisky mélangé de Karuizawa, mis en bouteille sous la marque Mercian.
Il s'agit d'une bouteille de 66 cl (660 ml) avec une teneur en alcool de 37 %.

À noter la teneur en alcool inhabituelle (37 %) et le volume encore plus inhabituel (66 cl). À l'époque, les droits d'accises étaient partiellement calculés sur la base de la teneur en alcool.
La distillerie Karuizawa (, Karuizawa jōryūsho) est une distillerie de whisky japonaise. Il était situé à Miyota, une ville sur le versant sud du volcan actif du mont Asama, dans le district de Kitasaku, dans la préfecture de Nagano, au Japon. La distillerie a été fondée en 1955 et a commencé sa production en 1956. Elle appartenait à Mercian Corporation et était la plus petite distillerie du Japon. La société Sanraku-Ocean a été créée en 1962 par la fusion de Sanraku Shuzo Co. et d'Ocean (anciennement Daikoku Budoshu). La première approvisionnait les distilleries de Yamanashi et Kawasaki, tandis que la seconde faisait venir la distillerie de malt de Karuizawa. En 1969, Yamanashi a fermé ses portes et les distillateurs à colonne et la production de whisky de grain ont été complètement transférés à Kawasaki. Pendant des années, l'entreprise a produit des whiskies mélangés populaires sous la marque Ocean Whisky, à partir de céréales Kawasaki et de malt Karuizawa, et est devenue la troisième marque la plus vendue au Japon. Cependant, incapable de concurrencer Suntory et Nikka, la société Kawasaki a fermé ses portes en 1987 et s'est concentrée sur la popularité croissante de son single malt Karuizawa. La société a été rebaptisée Sanraku Inc. en 1987 et Mercian à nouveau en 1990.

Nous fabriquons de l'authentique whisky Karuizawa, de la distillation à la maturation, ici à Karuizawa. Le
climat frais de Karuizawa et les eaux claires du mont Asama constituent l'environnement idéal pour la culture du blé et la maturation du whisky.
Le whisky Karuizawa original a autrefois enchanté les amateurs de whisky du monde entier.
La distillation a repris en décembre 2022
et les premiers nouveaux fûts ont été remplis début 2023.
Notre tout premier nouveau whisky devrait terminer sa maturation de 10 ans en 2033.
Pour honorer la « valeur du temps » chère à la riche nature de Karuizawa, nous ne vendons pas un spiritueux neuf.
Les amateurs de whisky du monde entier attendent avec impatience la naissance d'une nouvelle légende.
Les origines du whisky Karuizawa se trouvent à Totsuka Shuzo, une ancienne brasserie qui produit du saké depuis plus de 370 ans, depuis la période Edo.
En outre, il a fondé la nouvelle société de whisky Karuizawa Whisky Co., LTD le, avec M. Nakazato comme maître distillateur et M. Uchibori comme conseiller officiel (malheureusement décédé en 2021).
Tous deux ont déjà travaillé pour l'ancien whisky Karuizawa sous la direction de Mercian.

Karuizawa distillery (軽井沢蒸溜所, Karuizawa jōryūsho) is a Japanese whisky distillery. It was located at Miyota, a town on the southern slopes of an active complex volcano, Mount Asama, in Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1955, the distillery began production in 1956. It was owned by Mercian Corporation, and was the smallest in Japan. The Sanraku-Ocean company was formed in 1962 through the merger of the Sanraku Shuzo Co. and Ocean (formerly Daikoku Budoshu). The former provided the distilleries of Yamanashi and Kawasaki, while the latter brought the Karuizawa malt distillery to the table. In 1969, Yamanashi was closed and its column stills and grain whisky production moved exclusively to Kawasaki. For many years the company produced popular blended whiskies under the Ocean Whisky brand, using Kawasaki grain and Karuizawa malt, becoming the third best-selling label in Japan. Unable to compete with Suntory and Nikka however, the company closed Kawasaki in 1987, focussing on the emerging popularity of its Karuizawa single malt. The company was renamed Sanraku Inc in 1987, and again as Mercian in 1990.
