Le nombre '57' est associé à la marque Heinz depuis plus d'un siècle, bien qu'il n'y ait jamais eu 57 variétés Heinz lorsque le magnat des affaires de Pittsburgh H.J. Heinz a inventé le slogan en 1896 et il n'y a pas 57 variétés maintenant mais des centaines de variétés Heinz. Henry J. Heinz a affirmé plus tard qu'il avait été inspiré pour utiliser les variétés '57' par une publicité qu'il avait vue alors qu'il était dans un train surélevé à New York faisant la promotion d'un magasin de chaussures proposant '21 styles'. Le slogan "57 variétés" de l'entreprise figure encore aujourd'hui sur les bouteilles de ketchup Heinz et est au cœur de l'identité de la marque.

The number '57' has been associated with the Heinz brand for over a century, although, there were never 57 Heinz varieties when Pittsburgh business magnate H.J. Heinz invented the slogan in 1896 and there are not 57 varieties now but hundreds of Heinz varieties. Henry J. Heinz later claimed he was inspired to use the '57' varieties by an advertisement he saw whilst on an elevated train in New York City promoting a shoe store boasting "21 styles". The company's "57 varieties" slogan still features on Heinz ketchup bottles today and is central to the brand's identity.

This reproduction enamel sign, circa. 1980s, measures approx. 20.5cm (8 inch) diameter x 0.1.mm and is in near-new condition (other than small paint drop off on the outer rim). The glazed sign incorporates vivid colours black/white/red/green, against a white/red background in various fonts/sizes
