Very impressive double-view of the ports of the Islands of Kos and Rhodus, which were both during medieval times under the control of the Knights of the Order of St. John (the Knights of Malta).The upper part features Stanchio (the ancient name for Kos) The bottom part depicts the ancient port of the Island of Rhodos (Mandraki Harbour) with its ancient fortifications built by the Crusaders.At the far right: NAILLAC TOWER, which used to be a watch tower for the port. It was severely damaged during earthquakes in the 19th century and finally demolished, At the left side: the famous WINDMILLS.Drawn from nature by the famous Dutch traveler and topographer Cornelis de Bruyn (1652-1726), this is an accurate detailed depiction of the late 17th century.
