Solar Aqua Deep Bay Bronze Green – Ref. SA0030.0005Solar Aqua is a fascinating name in watchmaking because its story began in Canada more than a century ago. The brand was created in the early 1900s by Timothy Eaton, founder of the famous Eaton’s department-store empire. The original Solar Aqua watches were Swiss-made and became associated with the Canadian market and military heritage. After several decades away from the market, the name was revived in 2021 with a new generation of Swiss mechanical watches. The modern collection deliberately combines this Canadian heritage with Swiss engineering. The Deep Bay is the model that most clearly represents this new direction. Its design is inspired by the extreme environment of Baffin Bay in the Canadian Arctic. Solar Aqua states that the Deep Bay was engineered and certified for 2,136 metres / 7,008 feet / 213.6 ATM, the depth of Baffin Bay. The case also incorporates a helium escape valve and a screw-down construction. Reference SA0030.0005 is the green version of the Deep Bay Bronze. The 45 mm brushed bronze case is matched with a deep green dial and a black high-end silicone strap. Bronze is particularly interesting in a mechanical dive watch because the surface gradually develops its own patina over time, giving the watch a more individual appearance. The green dial features Super-LumiNova hands and indexes, while the rotating bronze bezel is fitted with a ceramic insert. Inside the watch is a Peseux P224 automatic movement modified specifically for Solar Aqua. The watch is fitted with sapphire crystal with a magnifier at 3 o’clock, a screw-down bronze crown and a screw-locked case back. The combination of the bronze case, green dial and extreme-depth specification gives the Deep Bay a very distinctive presence compared with more conventional diving watches.
