Box & Papers

This 40mm stainless steel Rolex Explorer II with reference 16570 was produced by Rolex in 2002. The "swiss made" signed black dial is in perfect condition, featuring 18k white gold luminova filled hour markers. On top we find the iconic 24 hour bezel. The automatic Rolex cal. 3185 movement just had a full service at our watchmaker and comes with our 2 year warranty. The watch has a very sharp 40mm stainless steel oyster case with nice intact bevels. It is strapped on a stainless steel Oyster bracelet. The bracelet is also in great condition with only very minor stretch and wear. It comes together with the original Rolex box and papers and 2 cards from prior Rolex services. The watch is in overall great condition with only some minor marks from wear. This is a perfect all round Rolex watch for either the office or your next trip.

Released in 1971, the Rolex Explorer II is an oft-overlooked watch within the Swiss manufacture’s collection. Designed specifically for speleologists (that’s cave divers for the uninitiated) the watch is best thought of as a sibling rather than a successor to the original Explorer.

Easily identified by the 24-hour fixed steel bezel, contrasting 24-hour hand and highly legible dial, the features of the Explorer II come in handy for those that need to know the time of day in environments where there is no natural light. Very niche and very, very Rolex.

For those of us not in the cave exploring trade, the Explorer II also works great as a no-nonsense sports watch with additional time telling features and a minimal aesthetic. Current references keep it simple with either a white or black dial and a return of the oversized orange 24 hour hand first seen on the debut reference from 1971. Vintage references offer a slightly smaller case size as well as pleasing patinated dials and markers.

Whichever reference you opt for, you can be sure that you’re getting Rolex quality mixed with a little bit of off-beat design that’ll stand out from the crowd above or underground.
