The Panther motif officially made its entrance during the 1920s and 1930s. Jeanne Toussaint, a close collaborator of Louis Cartier and the artistic director at Cartier, played an important role in creating the panther theme, transforming it into beautiful brooches, necklaces, and other jewelry pieces. Her creativity and deep affection for the Panthere earned her the nickname "La Panthère." Fast forward to the 1980s, and the Panthère watch collection made its debut. This specific example comes from the 90s, crafted from a blend of stainless steel and 18K yellow gold. It features a Quartz movement. The Panthère is an absolute timeless classic.

The Panthère de Cartier collection was launched in 1983 and was created in honour of the brand's long running panther motif, most frequently seen in its jewellery designs.

With it's modernist square case combining with classic Cartier's classic design cues, the Panthère was an instant hit and was adopted by famous figures of the time such as Tina Turner and also appeared in the 1987 Oliver Stone film Wall Street.

Cartier discontinued the Panthère series in 2004 which further increased the demand for the model and contributed to the early rise in popularity of pre-owned luxury watches.

Fans of the series hoping for an updated Panthère had their prayers answered when in 2017, Cartier reintroduced the model with an updated design and plethora of new sizes and styles.
