This model features an original champagne dial, with gold hour indexes, signed "Rolex", "Oyster Perpetual", "Superlative chronometer officially certified", "T Swiss T". Silver color hours, minutes, and a central second hands. A beautiful smooth yellow gold bezel is mounted on top of the 34mm (1,33 inch) stainless steel case excluding the crown and 40mm (1,57 inch) from lug to lug is in good vintage condition, without surface scratches. It was the first waterproof, self-winding wristwatch to use the patented rotor system that has been the blueprint of almost every subsequent watch in the Rolex catalogue. That’s why you’ll notice the words OYSTER PERPETUAL emblazoned on the dial of most of today’s watches. Now that’s what we’d call a legacy!

If the Oyster Perpetual looks familiar, that’s because it should. The combination of the waterproof Oyster case design and a self winding movement led to a watch case so perfect and versatile that Rolex decided to use it as the basis of the majority of their future models. The Submariner, GMT Master, Milgauss and Explorer all share the Oyster Perpetual DNA, adding features or modifications where needed to suit the intended use. Evolution, not revolution is the Rolex way.

Despite the other models it inspired, the Oyster Perpetual has remained in production and offers watch fans a simplified and elegant Rolex ownership experience.
