De BMW Z1 werd in 1986 ontworpen door Harm Lagaay. Van de auto, die in 1987 gepresenteerd werd, zijn tussen 1989 en 1991 precies 8.000 exemplaren geproduceerd. Meer dan drie kwart hiervan werden verkocht op de eigen markt, Duitsland. Het opvallendste aan deze auto waren de deuren, die in de carrosserie konden wegzakken. Die carrosserie bestaat volledig uit Thermoplast, door General Electric in koetswerkpanelen gegoten. De wagen was tevens de eerste wagen ter wereld die met standaard banden 1g in bochten kon halen, dit mede door de motorkap in omgekeerd vleugelprofiel en de dwarsgeplaatste uitlaat die eveneens een omgekeerd vleugelprofiel had. In eerste instantie zouden er slechts 4000 Z1's geproduceerd gaan worden maar toen de auto eenmaal bij de dealers arriveerde waren er al meer dan 5000 bestellingen en is er besloten de productie te verdubbelen naar 8.000 stuks.

Deze BMW Z1 Roadster is gebouwd in 1991 waar hij volgens kleurcodes violet moet zijn geweest. In 1994, te Duitsland, vond de eerste tenaamstelling plaats. Afgeleverd aan de eerste eigenaar door de BMW dealer uit Hamburg in de kleurstelling van 'pur-blau-metallic' over een grijs leder/stoffen interieur. Er zijn slechts 193 exemplaren geproduceerd in deze carrosseriekleur. Zowel de lak als het interieur verkeert in nette staat. Onderaan de auto zijn er de originele 16 inch lichtmetalen velgen te vinden.

Binnenin de auto wordt je ontvangen door 2 kuipstoelen. Deze bestaan uit half leder en stof met een camouflage-patroon. De rugsteun van de stoelen zijn uitgevoerd in de blauwe carrosseriekleur. Rondom in het interieur zijn er nog meer lederen accenten te vinden. Hiernaast is er het 3-spaak lederen stuur, samen met de houten versnellingspook en een windscherm.

De bekende M20 2.5 liter 6-in-lijn zorgt voor de aandrijving. Hij leverde 171 pk bij 5.800 tpm en 218 Nm koppel. De auto is voorzien van een handgeschakelde versnellingsbak met vijf versnellingen en kon 225 km/h halen. De sprint van 0 naar 100 km/h verliep in 7,8 seconden. De motor loopt goed en schakelt soepel. Hiernaast is hij nog in bezit van ABS. De distributieriem is vervangen bij 56.470 km's.

Na zijn leven in Duitsland te hebben doorgebracht, werd de Z1 in 2004 voor het eerst op Nederlands kenteken geregistreerd. Uiteindelijk kwam hij in 2011 in het bezit van de voorgaande eigenaar, die hem de resterende 12 jaar heeft gekoesterd. Dit is ook terug te zien in de huidige staat van de BMW.

The BMW Z1 was designed by Harm Lagaay in 1986. Exactly 8,000 examples of the car, which was presented in 1987, were produced between 1989 and 1991. More than three quarters of these were sold in its home market, Germany. The most striking feature of this car was the doors, which could sink into the bodywork. That body consisted entirely of Thermoplastic, moulded into body panels by General Electric. The car was also the first car in the world that could achieve 1g in cornering with standard tyres, partly because of the inverted wing profile bonnet and the transverse exhaust that also had an inverted wing profile. Initially, only 4,000 Z1s were to be produced but once the car arrived at dealerships, there were already more than 5,000 orders and it was decided to double production to 8,000 units.

This BMW Z1 Roadster was built in 1991 where, according to colour codes, it must have been violet. In 1994, in Germany, the first registration took place. Delivered to the first owner by the Hamburg BMW dealer in the colour scheme of 'pur-blau-metallic' over a grey leather/fabric interior. Only 193 examples were produced in this body colour. Both the paint and the interior are in clean condition. At the bottom of the car are the original 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the car, you are welcomed by 2 bucket seats. These consist of half leather and fabric with a camouflage pattern. The backrest of the seats are done in the blue body colour. Further leather accents can be found all around the interior. Alongside this is the 3-spoke leather steering wheel, along with the wooden gear lever and a windshield.

The familiar M20 2.5-litre 6-in-line provided the powertrain. It produced 171 hp at 5,800 rpm and 218 Nm of torque. It featured a five-speed manual gearbox and could reach 225 km/h. It sprinted from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The engine runs well and shifts smoothly. Apart from this, it is still in possession of ABS. The timing belt was replaced at 56,470 km.

After spending its life in Germany, the Z1 was first registered on Dutch registration in 2004. It eventually came into the possession of its previous owner in 2011, who cherished it for the remaining 12 years. This is also reflected in the BMW's current condition.
