About Orit Fuchs (1970) ;
After working for years as an art director at advertising agencies in Israel, the Tel Aviv-based Orit Fuchs now creates Pop art-inspired paintings of idealized women that recall the color-saturated portraits of Alex Katz. Largely self-taught apart from a brief period of study at Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Fuchs works across media including painting, sculpture, knitting, and photography. Contemporary women are a central motif in her work; her “Short Stories” series depicts faceless female figures that simultaneously portray individuality and universality. Fuchs has exhibited at commercial galleries in Israel as well as at galleries and fairs in North America and Asia. She has produced multiple variations on several works, including a series of paintings and bronze sculptures painted in prismatic hues.
